What is a Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA)? The European Union’s Strategic Environmental Assessment Directive (which came into effect on 21 July 2004) aims to protect the environment and integrate environmental considerations into the planning process to promote sustainable development. Why does this relate to the development of our LTP? Our second Local Transport Plan falls within the requirements of this Directive and the partners will be demonstrating that the document gives sufficient consideration to:
SEA represents good practice and brings transparency in policy development. It helps to show how the partners already exercise professional judgement in relation to understanding, planning for and mitigating the consequences of our policies and programmes but places this in a more structured, formal and accountable framework.
